Kings should have been given more of a chance

NBC's Kings was given the hype treatment early on, only to be subsequently put on hiatus and then burned off on Saturday nights.

While there has been some inconsistency during its first (and only) season run, it shows/showed much promise and in fact is ending on many high and thrilling notes.

After several "one-offs" in the middle of the season that got a bit soap-y and snoozy, the emphasis on larger themes as things are building to a climax -- loyalty, family, destiny, ambition, self vs. something more noble -- is pretty terrific.

Probably it's quite remote, but Kings is the type of show that deserves to live on on another network. Showtime, perhaps?
